Copyright- protection given to the originator of a work. Only the originator and people with their permission can copy the work.
Fair Use- allows the use of copyrighted work without express permission from the originator. It only applies in certain situations, depending on:

- The purpose: are you using the material for educational purposes?
- The amount: are you using only a small portion of the original?
- The nature: Are you using information that is fiction or nonfiction? Fictional is LESS likely to be fair use.
- The effect: will using a portion of the original lessen its value?
